Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) |
| |
SEO, which stands for Search Engine Optimisation, involves a set of techniques that you can use so search engines list your site as a search result. Designing a website and adding some content may not be enough to get your site noticed by these search engines as they rely on keywords which are basically the ones that others use to perform searches. Therefore, SEO is applied on the pages where content is edited or added and codes changes are made if necessary.
When you type a certain keyword in a search engine, you will see a list of results in a certain order. The order of the results varies from different search engines and the exact method of generation depends on many factors. In general, the most popular and optimised websites are on the first few pages. If your website is in the same niche as these sites, these sites represent your competition and getting your site up there can be difficult to impossible. Advertising may be more useful especially if your site has some unique content that the popular sites lack.

Pay Per Click Advertising (SEM) |
| |
Pay per click advertising (PPC) is a widely used form of internet advertisement. The basic principle of PPC advertising is that people who purchase links on search engines or on sites that utilise search engine ads, such as blogs, only pay for their ads when a customer clicks on the advertisement link. The fees for this vary significantly. Search engine keywords that are used uncommonly cost much less on a per click basis, than those that are searched frequently.
Google and most other search engines have some form of this marketing strategy for commercial clients. Most search engines have two different ways in which your ads can be featured. In sponsored match pay per click advertising, ads show up on search engine pages. When people search for a phrase relevant to your ad, it may pop up - often to the side of search engine results.
The other form of pay per click marketing is content match. People create private content driven websites and then choose to take part in programs that allow ads to run on their pages. They usually are reimbursed on a pay per click basis, though they only make a percentage of the total the advertiser pays. The search engine looks for ads relevant to the content of the private site. This ensures that the people interested in the content are likely interested in the ads.

Social Media |
| |
With social media marketing online visibility is vital. It is a form of marketing through social networking sites and platforms where products and services are marketed through internet marketing. The methods used to market these products and services focuses on creating content on social networks that would attract attention of readers that visit these sites. The success of social media marketing depends vastly on the reader’s effort to share the content found on your websites or links to your social networks.
The idea behind social networking is to become relevant enough to be included in topics, trends and conversations on blogs, forums, message boards, photo and video sharing sites or any significant social media platforms. The more the content is being passed on from user to user, the more it succeeds. Since a lot of third party users find the content relevant to themselves, other readers will find it to be credible too. The trust and faith in the product and services you market becomes more apparent as a result.
Social media marketing is the way to go for a thriving business. Since it has been proven that the internet has exceeded other forms of media as people's primary source of information, it is a good idea to become part of it.

Linking and Page Rank |
| |
Linking is the process of creating links to your website. Each link means that someone is trying to inform others about some interesting page he has found. Therefore, the number of links is a measure of popularity or reputation of the page. The number and quality on backlinks is the basis of the page rank algorithm used by the search engine. Google is by far the most popular and widely used search engine. The main reason for this popularity is the fact that it returns relevant results for every possible search phrase. Because of this many webmasters are trying to get as many backlinks as possible.
Page ranks are defined numerically, from 1 through 10 - 10, being the highest. Very few pages have a page rank of 10, and anything above a 6 is considered very good. There are many factors that determine a page's rank, but the main variable seems to be based on how many websites link to your page. The higher page ranked sites that link to your site, the better. In other words, 10 links to your page from high ranking sites, will easily outweigh five times that amount of links from unknown sites with low page ranks. Just to make it harder, the amount of "credit" your site gets from incoming links, is also divided by the amount of sites you link out to. Another thing to keep in mind is that the page rank updates now and then.
